The Keystone
the reason it did not fall over
What is The Keystone?
Not dramatic, not loud, and absolutely load-bearing. You did the thing you said you would do, on the day you said you would do it, for years, and the people around you have quietly built their lives on the assumption that you will keep doing it. You prefer the proven to the novel because the proven works.
The cost: You carry more than you admit. You get asked because you never say no, and nobody thinks to check whether you are all right, because you always are.
The Keystone, as a person
You are the one who has the spare key, the phone number of a plumber who actually turns up, and a rough idea of everyone’s birthday. You have lived in the same place a long time, or wanted to. When something goes wrong at two in the morning yours is the number people call, and you answer, and you do not mention it afterwards. There is a particular kind of person who finds you slightly boring at twenty-five and considers you the most important person in their life by forty, and both of those judgements are about them rather than you.
Written as one person rather than as a category, which is the point and also the risk — see the note at the bottom of this page.
What the five letters in RAHMG mean
Each letter is one of the Big Five traits, read in OCEAN order. Select any of them to read what that trait measures and how it is scored.
Rooted — low Openness
knows what works and sees no reason to leave it.
Architect — high Conscientiousness
builds the plan and holds to it.
Harbor — low Extraversion
still water; the place people come to.
Mender — high Agreeableness
closes the gaps between people.
Granite — low Neuroticism
does not move.
What The Keystone looks like at their best
In a long crisis. Everyone else is running on adrenaline and you are running on Tuesday — feeding people, keeping the schedule, doing the unglamorous thing on the eleventh day when the volunteers have gone home.
What The Keystone looks like under pressure
You go quiet and absorb more. Rather than saying the load is too heavy you take on the extra piece, and the first anyone hears about it is when something you have never dropped gets dropped.
What helps: Someone who asks twice. You will say you are fine on the first ask every time.
How common is The Keystone?
No population figures are published yet. Rarity is computed from a weekly aggregate release, and the first one appears once enough people have taken the assessment for a cell to clear the minimum publication size of 25.
Nothing on this page claims to describe how common the type is among people. When a release exists it will say which population it came from and how many were in it.
Which types are closest to The Keystone?
These five differ by exactly one letter — so each stripe pattern below differs from yours in exactly one place. If any of your own letters came back in lowercase, one of these is genuinely as good a description of you as this page is.
What five letters can and cannot tell you
Less than the five scores underneath them, and far more memorably — that is the trade this page is making, deliberately.
A code compresses five continuous measurements into five letters, and throws away everything in between by design. Trait scores have no natural boundaries, so this names a neighbourhood rather than a species: two people sharing a code can differ a great deal, and somebody one letter away may be more like you than somebody who matches all five. Where your own score sits close to the middle we say so — that letter comes back lowercase rather than being decided by a coin flip you never see.
One more, published rather than buried: a personality description is the easiest thing in the world to believe about yourself. If this page felt uncanny, read two others at random and notice how much of those fit too.
