The Troubadour
shows up with a story and no luggage
What is The Troubadour?
Charming, curious, and entirely without a plan. You have been everywhere and know everyone, collect people and places rather than possessions, and can talk to absolutely anyone, which you regard as unremarkable and is not.
The cost: You are lovely to know and difficult to rely on. People genuinely light up when you appear, and they have also learned not to build anything around you being there.
The Troubadour, as a person
You arrive with a story, no luggage and no plan, and everybody is pleased to see you. You have been everywhere, know everyone, and can talk to absolutely anybody, which you consider unremarkable and is not. You are also the person who says they will definitely be there and is there about two thirds of the time. The people who love you have made peace with that ratio and would not swap you for somebody more reliable and less interesting.
Written as one person rather than as a category, which is the point and also the risk — see the note at the bottom of this page.
What the five letters in VUBMG mean
Each letter is one of the Big Five traits, read in OCEAN order. Select any of them to read what that trait measures and how it is scored.
Voyager — high Openness
goes looking for territory nobody has mapped.
Unbound — low Conscientiousness
answers to the moment, not to the schedule.
Beacon — high Extraversion
radiates outward, visible from a long way off.
Mender — high Agreeableness
closes the gaps between people.
Granite — low Neuroticism
does not move.
What The Troubadour looks like at their best
Anywhere that benefits from somebody who can talk to literally anyone. You have been everywhere, know everyone, and connect two people who needed each other without making anything of it.
What The Troubadour looks like under pressure
You are lovely to know and impossible to rely on. People light up when you appear and have quietly stopped building anything around you being there.
What helps: To keep one promise that is inconvenient, on time, without being reminded.
How common is The Troubadour?
No population figures are published yet. Rarity is computed from a weekly aggregate release, and the first one appears once enough people have taken the assessment for a cell to clear the minimum publication size of 25.
Nothing on this page claims to describe how common the type is among people. When a release exists it will say which population it came from and how many were in it.
Which types are closest to The Troubadour?
These five differ by exactly one letter — so each stripe pattern below differs from yours in exactly one place. If any of your own letters came back in lowercase, one of these is genuinely as good a description of you as this page is.
What five letters can and cannot tell you
Less than the five scores underneath them, and far more memorably — that is the trade this page is making, deliberately.
A code compresses five continuous measurements into five letters, and throws away everything in between by design. Trait scores have no natural boundaries, so this names a neighbourhood rather than a species: two people sharing a code can differ a great deal, and somebody one letter away may be more like you than somebody who matches all five. Where your own score sits close to the middle we say so — that letter comes back lowercase rather than being decided by a coin flip you never see.
One more, published rather than buried: a personality description is the easiest thing in the world to believe about yourself. If this page felt uncanny, read two others at random and notice how much of those fit too.
