What is The Watchmaker?
Precise to a degree most people find slightly alarming. You see the mechanism, you see where it will fail, and you cannot leave it alone once you have. Solitary, exacting, and quietly certain that most things could be done considerably better.
The cost: The precision turns inward. You hold yourself to a tolerance no object could meet, and the gap between the work and the intention is a place you spend real time.
The Watchmaker, as a person
You can see the mechanism. Watching somebody use a badly designed thing causes you actual discomfort, and you have redesigned several objects in your head that you will never build. Your standards are not a pose — they are the same standards you apply to yourself, which is the problem. There is a piece of work you have not released because of a flaw only you can see, and there is a version of your life where you released it years ago and it was fine.
