The Outrider
ahead of the group, out of contact
What is The Outrider?
You go where the others are not. Independent to the point of inconvenience, curious, entirely unbothered by consensus, and constitutionally unable to do a thing because that is how it is done. Not lonely — just genuinely uninterested in the parade.
The cost: You are unreachable when it matters. The independence is real, but so is the fact that nobody knows where you are, and you have handled things alone that you did not have to.
The Outrider, as a person
You are already somewhere else. Not aloof — just genuinely uninterested in doing something because that is how it is done. You were into it before, you left before, and you did not tell anybody either time. This has made you early on things often enough to trust the instinct. It has also meant handling things alone that you did not have to, and the people who would have helped only found out afterwards, if at all.
Written as one person rather than as a category, which is the point and also the risk — see the note at the bottom of this page.
What the five letters in VUHCG mean
Each letter is one of the Big Five traits, read in OCEAN order. Select any of them to read what that trait measures and how it is scored.
Voyager — high Openness
goes looking for territory nobody has mapped.
Unbound — low Conscientiousness
answers to the moment, not to the schedule.
Harbor — low Extraversion
still water; the place people come to.
Challenger — low Agreeableness
says the true thing and lets it land.
Granite — low Neuroticism
does not move.
What The Outrider looks like at their best
Going where the consensus is not. Independent enough to be genuinely early on something, and untroubled enough by disagreement to still be there when it turns out you were right.
What The Outrider looks like under pressure
You become unreachable exactly when it matters. Things get handled alone that did not have to be, and nobody knew there was anything to handle.
What helps: To tell one person before rather than after.
How common is The Outrider?
No population figures are published yet. Rarity is computed from a weekly aggregate release, and the first one appears once enough people have taken the assessment for a cell to clear the minimum publication size of 25.
Nothing on this page claims to describe how common the type is among people. When a release exists it will say which population it came from and how many were in it.
Which types are closest to The Outrider?
These five differ by exactly one letter — so each stripe pattern below differs from yours in exactly one place. If any of your own letters came back in lowercase, one of these is genuinely as good a description of you as this page is.
What five letters can and cannot tell you
Less than the five scores underneath them, and far more memorably — that is the trade this page is making, deliberately.
A code compresses five continuous measurements into five letters, and throws away everything in between by design. Trait scores have no natural boundaries, so this names a neighbourhood rather than a species: two people sharing a code can differ a great deal, and somebody one letter away may be more like you than somebody who matches all five. Where your own score sits close to the middle we say so — that letter comes back lowercase rather than being decided by a coin flip you never see.
One more, published rather than buried: a personality description is the easiest thing in the world to believe about yourself. If this page felt uncanny, read two others at random and notice how much of those fit too.
