Concentric

Conscientiousness

Cautiousness

How much you think before you act.

Why it is measured

Deliberation is separable from discipline. Careful people are not always persistent, and vice versa.

What a high or low score looks like

High scorers weigh consequences first. Low scorers decide quickly and adjust later.

Why it matters

Neither end is better. Deliberation costs speed; speed costs accuracy.

The items behind it

Four public-domain statements, answered on a five-point scale. Items marked − are reverse keyed: agreeing with them counts against the trait, which is what stops agreeing with everything from producing a high score.

  • -Jump into things without thinking
  • -Make rash decisions
  • -Rush into things
  • -Act without thinking

Four items is not many. A facet measured this way carries real uncertainty, which is why every score on this site is reported as a range rather than a single number.
